A Quick Bite at Hando

My lunch was great, everything was fresh, nice, and basically $5 per roll, so 3 rolls and you’re already $15 in. That would be ok but I’m not even remotely satisfied. I could probably eat 3 more of these…but I’m not really wanting to spend $30 on a lunch, but it is sushi and it was good. So my thought is, it’s a nice option for an every once in awhile kind of spot.

Tonight at Kokoro in Bravery Hall

Finally getting around to trying Kokoro…my personal friend and a chef here, Chef Niki. We love the atmosphere and liked the food, but not everything. In order from best to least favorite was Maguro Crudo, Shisheito Peppers, Chicken Fat Rice, Fatty Tuna Sashimi, Maguro Maki, Kinoko, Hotate Yaki. The portions are really small, just enough for 2-4 bites, but allows you to have a lot of variety, which I like. Our bill came out to $74, which I really like!

The Homer

IMG_7977.jpeg

I bought these for the office, I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t that crazy about these this time. I remember them being better. Maybe the no line has something to do with their freshness, no line, not as fresh, not as good?

VooDoo Doughnuts

Yes, we got in! Actually I had no interest in waiting in this ridiculous line, but today…since I happen to live fairly close, noticed the line was short, not past the front door! So we packed up and headed out! A short 10 minute wait and tah-dah doughnuts were in hand! I asked my college stepson if he wanted voodoo doughnuts and his reply was…”I’m on the way!”. We didn’t go crazy, but 8 doughnuts ended up being $20.50, which it might be better to just get their VooDoo Dozen, at the flat rate of $20.

One of my all time favorite doughnuts outside of the classic glazed is the Old Fashioned. I wasn’t crazy about VDD’s version. However, the Homer was pretty good. The kids loved it and I thought the strawberry flavor in it was pretty good. The husband thought it was too sweet 🙄 what does he know!

My stepson didn’t finish his Bacon Maple Bar, said it was too much sweet. I had a corner of it and thought it was good, but I can see how a big doughnut would be too much. Overall, I liked it very much. The over the top doughnuts are more than I personally like to eat, but a little taste is enough for me. So far, my favorite is the Homer!

BOGO at Sprinkles

Cupcakes never get old, especially when there’s a sale at Sprinkles. It’s a regular thing I’m learning from my friend Uyen, who seems to always notify me when there’s a BOGO deal, which seems like more often then I should go. Today, I got the Toasted Coconut with Caramel and the Lemon Blueberry, which happens to be gluten free. I remember the LB being tastier but the Toasted Coconut did not disappoint! You must be signed up with them to take advantage of these sales. Enjoy!

Golden Bagels & Kids

A great combination for this busy mom who squeezes in one morning during the weekdays with her little boys. You just never know how these rambunctious guys are going to be so this place is just perfect! Not too crowded, the staff are super great and accommodating. Once, even gave us a free blueberry bagel because they were out of blueberry muffins…the only thing Liam will eat by the way. It was nice though because at first he didn’t like the bagel but he gave it another try and decided it wasn’t bad. Since then he has had the bagel again and will eat it with his blueberry muffin.

I was also told they have Moms & Kids on Tuesday mornings, I’ll see if I can ever attend that, maybe one day.

Great Cheap Cakes

The perfect size cake for a family celebrating a birthday. This tasty Italian Cream cake so cute and only $13 from HEB.

This large sheet cake is from Costco and only $18! And more importantly it tastes good! A little tip…you can modify the design, as long as it’s fairly easy to do. I have ordered this cake twice and both times I modified the design of the cake. They are super nice about it.

Eunice

The only thing I knew about this place was that there was buzz about it and that there was also a lot of opposing views, but other than that not anything specific. Eunice happen to come up recently in talks and I happen to need a place for lunch today, so where we’re going!

I have to say the restaurant is quite impressive. Floor to ceiling windows, very comfortably stylish furniture, overall a very nice color palette. I ordered the Chicken & Gumbo bowl $13, not the cup, thank God. It really wasn’t very big at all. I love tobacco with gumbo but this dish really was so nicely flavored, I really didn’t need it. Half way through I did end up using the Tobassco but that does end up over powering everything. The fried oyster salad is apparently really food too.

I enjoyed about 50% of the strawberry cobbler. The crusty parts were nice, the strawberries too much. Less strawberries, more crust and it would have been perfect. The bread pudding was too much. I did not enjoy that at all, one bite of that and I was done.

Overall, I really liked the restaurant. We sat at the bar and I will likely go back again, very soon, and probably often. That is definitely a promise!

Voo Doo Doughnut Open!

Really people? They’re just doughnuts! When it comes to these things, I am not an early adopter…laggard is more like it. How do people have the time to stand out here all day? They must be some good doughnuts! Can’t wait to try and report back.
